Diet and oral health are closely linked, as found in a report signed by experts from the Spanish Society of Periodontology in collaboration with the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity and reviewed by the Spanish Diabetes Society Working Group on Diabetes and Periodontitis.

The Dental Tribune portal reports that based on the results of this study, Spanish experts have compiled a decalogue of important recommendations for maintaining oral health, preventing obesity and, consequently, caring for the body.

How to have healthy teeth and prevent obesity?

The document, in which both scientific societies participated, recommends ten basic measures related to nutrition, and although many of them are already known, this time they are summarized, scientifically argued and explained in an accessible way, reports El Confidencial.

These are supplements that are prohibited for metabolic syndrome: they are ineffective and harmful to health.

Some tips to help you have good teeth and avoid obesity:

1. Limit free sugars: They should only account for 5 to 10% of total energy intake, as recommended by WHO.

2. No sugary drinks: including carbonated or non-carbonated soft drinks, fruit or vegetable juices, liquid and powder concentrates, flavored water, energy and sports drinks, ready-to-drink tea and coffee, or flavored milk.

3. Reduce your intake of saturated fat.

4. Eat more foods with mono- and polyunsaturated omega-3 fats.

5. Eat more foods rich in vitamin C.

6. Eat fatty fish and eggs to get vitamin D.

7. Eat fruits and vegetables daily.

8. Eliminate smoking and alcohol from your daily habits.

9. Drink more water.

10. Eat a quality diet, such as a Mediterranean or Atlantic diet.
