Health authorities southern Sudan updated outbreak data yellow fever affected Western Equatoria State, with 34 additional cases reported between 30 January and 17 February, bringing the total number of cases since 21 December 2023 to 64 (3 confirmed, 61 suspected).

The last outbreak in South Sudan occurred in 2022, when two cases were reported.

Yambio (33 cases) is the most affected area, followed by Tambura (12 cases), Nzara (9 cases), Ibba (4 cases), Ezo (5 cases) and Maridi (1 case).

The South Sudan Ministry of Health, in collaboration with WHO, UNICEF and other partners, has launched a reactive yellow fever vaccination campaign to prevent transmission of the disease.
