39% faster than Radeon 780M in Geekbench

Geekbench conducted its first graphics performance test. AMD Radeon 890M. We must remember that this is a new high-end iGPU based on Architecture of RDNA 3.5and increases the number of stream processors (cores) compared to the best iGPU so far – the Radeon 780M.

For context: AMD Radeon 890 offers 1024 stream processors at a turbo frequency of 2.90 GHz. In turn, the Radeon 880M reaches the same frequencies, but is limited to a lower core configuration. 768 stream processors.

AMD Radeon 890M: 33% more cores for 39% faster performance on Geekbench

From these data it is clear that the architecture RDNK 3.5 used in AMD Radeon 890M Offers virtually no performance improvement regarding RDNA 3.0. Thanks to the OpenCL benchmarking software integrated into Geekbench, we know that the AMD Radeon 890.

Thanks to OpenCL benchmarking software integrated into Geekbench, we know that the AMD Radeon 890 achieves the score 41,995 points. It’s also worth noting that while it’s listed as a Radeon 880M, it’s also said to be a processor.
AMD Radeon AI HX 170. One thing to keep in mind is that this processor was renamed the HX 370 at the last minute and the GPU was renamed the Radeon 890M for marketing reasons to counteract the upcoming Intel Core Ultra 200 processors.

Thus, we are saying that the AMD Radeon 880M is hardly 39% faster than Radeon 780M in Geekbench. Now this improvement is 33.3% more cores integrated on the GPU. In other words, the RDNA 3.5 architecture offers virtually no improvements.
at least at the performance level. It is expected that at the very least it will offer a noteworthy aspect regarding
to energy consumption. As such, the big beneficiaries will be the growing number of handheld console makers running AMD x86 hardware.

With this performance, the iGPU is almost at the level of the desktop GeForce GTX 1650 Ti.

With a Geekbench score of 41,995, the AMD Radeon 890M raises the performance bar for AMD iGPUs. Specifically, it works almost exactly like AMD Radeon PX 480 desktop (42,732 points) and very close to 44,561 points
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti. Depending on the DRAM used, i.e. using a faster one, this performance can increase to the level of the best GPUs.

Obviously, we are talking about the Geekbench OpenCL test. Hence It won’t happen until the games come. Let us find out the true potential of the AMD Radeon 890M. Now, if we get around 40% performance gain with less power consumption, it will be quite interesting to see the next generation of consoles with these AMD Strix Point APUs.

The processor used in the test, AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, offers 12-core processor and 12 threads (4x P-Core + 8x E-Core) along with this Radeon 890M with TDP only 28 W. Now it can be adjusted from 15 to 54 W.
