Comedies are no longer the box office forces they once were, and many comedies now skip theaters altogether before going straight to streaming. This is unfortunate because laughing in a crowded theater during a comedy can be a cathartic experience. And as far as we’re concerned, the genre’s best days are still ahead as some of the best comedies of the last half decade hold their own against the classics of the 80s, 90s and 21st century. ,
When compiling this list of the five greatest comedies of the past five years, we stuck to a strict release window between 2018 and 2023 for each film, whether theatrical or streaming. Surprisingly, no film of 2020 or 2021 made it to us. But after taking a deep dive into each film, we think these five will be the ones that stand the test of time.
No Hard Feelings (2023)
don’t feel bad This isn’t Jennifer Lawrence’s first comedy, but this time she fearlessly introduces herself to the genre, especially during some very R-rated scenes. Her character, Maddie Barker, is a bit of a mess and is facing a crisis because she can’t make money as an Uber driver after her car is impounded. To save herself from financial trouble, Maddie answers a very unusual Craigslist ad from Laird (Matthew Broderick) and Allison Baker (Laura Benanti).
The Bakers offer Maddie the money she needs to survive if she agrees to date their introverted son, Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman) before he leaves for college. The problem is that Percy doesn’t really know much about dating, and Maddy’s attempts at seduction go to his head. Of course, Percy doesn’t know the truth about why Maddie is following him, and he wouldn’t like it if he found out.

Game Night (2018)
game night It follows a couple, Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie Davis (Rachel McAdams), who love organizing gaming events with their friends, maybe a little too much. Max also feels insecure about potentially becoming a father, and the shadow of his more successful older brother, Brooks Davis (Kyle Chandler) falls on him, especially when Brooks insists on hosting the next game night at his house. .
When the time comes, Max and Annie, as well as their group, see that Brooks has been kidnapped by armed criminals. They initially believed it to be part of Brooks’ elaborate game. But Max and Annie soon discover that the danger is very real. And they’re going to need a lot of help to bring Brooks back alive.

Instead, it builds on the events of Al’s life to introduce sensationalist elements, while casting former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe as young Weird Al and comedy veteran Diedrich Bader as the present-day voice of Weird Al. presents.
The film focuses on Weird Al’s passion for creating parodies of songs in an entertaining way. OfficeStarring Rainn Wilson as his mentor, Dr. Demento, and Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna. It’s also one of those rare movies that manages to get away with being relentlessly silly from beginning to end.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)
Netflix got the entire franchise To all the boys I’ve loved before, with sequels and a TV series spinoff. This wouldn’t have happened if the original film wasn’t one of the best comedies of the last few years. x men apocalypseLana Condor plays Lara Jean, a high school student who has made a habit of expressing her feelings by writing letters to the boys she had a crush on…and then never mails the letters.
One day, Lara Jean becomes concerned to learn that not only has someone sent her letters, but her former crushes, Peter (Noah Centineo) and Josh (Israel Broussard) also want to talk to her about it. Lara Jean confesses the truth to Peter, who suggests they go on a date to make his ex-girlfriend, General (Emilija Baranák), jealous. But things will get really weird when Lara Jean and Peter start having existing feelings for each other.
