There is something wonderful about romantic comedies. Unlike real life, things usually work out for the characters in the end. What drama is present is generally light-hearted and the storylines stay away from the violence and gore that you see in other genres. Plus, even if the situation is unrealistic, the predictability of the story is soothing. Romantic comedy is one of the best movies to watch if you want to be stress free.
Prime Video has a wide selection of rom-coms available. It’s hard to narrow the selection down to just a few options, but we’ve identified the best Prime Video romantic comedies that you can watch right now. So sit on the couch, close the curtains, and grab your favorite drink. It’s time to ignore the outside world and find a little joy while playing on your favorite streaming device.
Notting Hill
We start the list with a rom-com classic: Notting Hill. It is about William Thacker, played by Hugh Grant, who owns a bookshop in Notting Hill, the real-life location in London. One day, he meets one of the most popular women in the world: the famous Anna Scott, played by Julia Roberts. When Thacker begins to fall in love, she doesn’t realize how hard it is to romance a celebrity.
The film is a perfect balance of romance and comedy, capturing the essence of what we love about this genre. Grant and Roberts make a great pair and manage to enhance each other’s strengths in the film. Meanwhile, director Roger Michell showcases the warmth of Thacker’s family, which is an essential part of making this film one of the best romantic comedies.

10 Things I Hate About You
Seeing the late Heath Ledger in 10 Things I Hate About You adds an extremely bittersweet quality to the film. However, the chemistry he shares with Julie Stiles makes it worth watching and rewatching several times later. Ledger plays Patrick Verona, who is recruited by a classmate to woo Kat, played by Julia Stiles. This is all so that her little sister, Bianca, can finally date.
The film succeeds in being its modern take on the famous Shakespeare play, “The Taming of the Shrew”. Strong acting, surprisingly subtle comedy and a somewhat convoluted but well-written plot make it a top choice in the rom-com world. Although it may initially seem like a typical teen movie, it resonated much deeper with its audience than that, especially as the ’90s have become a part of our distant past.

started again
Musical Once director John Carney comes up with a low-key, but charming romantic comedy in his film Begin Again. It stars Mark Ruffalo as Dan, a down-and-out music producer who has lost practically everything. One night while out drinking, he hears Greta, played by Keira Knightley, singing on stage. Her raw talent attracts him and he is determined to collaborate with her.
You may be surprised to know that Keira Knightley did her own singing in the film. Adam Levine plays Greta’s boyfriend Dave in this film. He plays an arrogant character, which contrasts with Ruffalo’s humble demeanor. Between the music, love and ideal devotion between all the characters, this film is a cozy addition to the popular film genre.

elsa and fred
There aren’t enough romantic comedies about finding love in your old age. However, the movie Elsa and Fred frees us from this stereotype. Starring two iconic Hollywood actors, Christopher Plummer and Shirley MacLaine, it is about two estranged neighbors who find romance and hope during their 80s.
MacLaine’s vivacious Shirley could not be more different from Plummer’s disaffected Fred. Age becomes an important part of the story, especially when Shirley reassures Fred that he still has a lot of life left in him. Although this may not be the movie to top your list, it is a charming portrayal of romance in your elderly years. Additionally, several big-name actors appear in the film, including Scott Bakula as Elsa’s son Gavin, James Brolin as Elsa’s ex, George Segal as Fred’s friend, and Fred’s daughter Lydia K. Starring Marcia Gay Harden.

ticket to heaven
One of our favorite Hollywood couples reunites in the rom-com Ticket to Paradise. Julia Roberts plays Georgia Cotton and George Clooney plays her ex-husband David Cotton. When they learn that their daughter is marrying someone they had just met, they put aside their differences to prevent her from making a mistake.
Their great on-screen chemistry, beautiful locations and perfectly timed comedy make this one of the best rom-com movies on Prime Video. For those familiar with the genre, the story may play out in a fairly familiar manner, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining. In fact, part of the appeal of this type of movie is predictability. This movie is a wonderful escape from the current troubles of the world and you won’t want to miss it.
