So if you’re looking for a way to while away some time this weekend, we’ve got you covered with this curated selection of great limited series offered by the popular streaming service. Here are our picks for seven Hulu miniseries you should watch this weekend.
catch 22
This Hulu miniseries may seem like a typical war TV series at first, but the show is more about the absurdist comedy of its material than it is a pure historical war dramatization à la Band of Brothers. Based on the novel of the same name, Catch-22 stars Christopher Abbott in the role of Captain. John Yossarian, a United States Army Air Forces bombardier in World War II, tries to get out of the war, but the more he tries to get out, he is thrown into more missions.
Although the Hulu miniseries doesn’t live up to the famous novel it’s based on, it’s still worth a watch. It’s also undeniably funny and full of acting talent. Abbott in particular is excellent as Yossarian, as is George Clooney as Scheiskopf, an officer who is constantly promoted despite being possibly one of the worst people for the job.

Impotent
Catch-22 may be a dark comedy, but Dopesick is downright dark. Starring Michael Keaton as Dr. Samuel Phoenix, Dopesick is a Hulu miniseries based on the non-fiction book Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company that Addicted America, which examines the opioid crisis in America and Purdue Pharma’s role in this devastating chapter. Covers the role of. Of American history.
Overall, this is an incredibly dramatic transformation of the web of corruption that led to America’s opioid epidemic. The cast alone is a reason to watch, especially Keaton’s performance as Phoenix, who would win a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series. Fellow cast members Will Poulter, Peter Sarsgaard, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mare Winningham and Kaitlyn Dever also received nominations for their performances, some of 14 emmy nomination Dopesik will be received. When it comes to finding an acclaimed miniseries, Dopesick is hard to beat.

normal people
If you’re looking for something to watch with the whole family, Normal People may not be for you. But if you want an incredible, relatable drama about how difficult relationships can be, Normal People is a must-watch. It’s based on the novel by Sally Rooney and unlike Catch-22, which sometimes falls a bit short of its source material, Normal People excels as an adaptation as well as a dramatic miniseries in its own right.
Normal People stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Marianne Sheridan and Paul Mescal as Connell Waldron and follows their relationship from secondary school (high school) to college in Dublin. Their performance as a couple struggling to work with each other is weak and sometimes brutal to watch (in a good way), so if you decide to watch this miniseries a couple of times So I won’t blame you. But Normal People is easily one of the best miniseries you can watch on Hulu this weekend.

rising tower
The Looming Tower tracks the rise of al-Qaeda and its leader Osama bin Laden in the years before the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It stars Jeff Daniels as John O’Neill, the head of the FBI’s New York Counterterrorism Center, and Tahar Rahim as Ali Soufan, a Muslim Lebanese-American member of O’Neill’s I-49 task force who Eventually becomes O’Neill’s most trusted confidant. The guy in the FBI. But The Looming Tower is not just about the al-Qaeda attack, it is also about the ineptitude and conspiracy that led to a preventable attack on American soil.
When I saw The Looming Tower Review I was surprised to see that it was so divisive among audiences and critics. I found it to be incredibly fascinating, must-see television. The performances from Daniel and Rahim in particular are incredible to watch, but the story of a government that can’t get out of its own way is equally thrilling. If I had to recommend one miniseries from this list this weekend, The Looming Tower would probably be it.

God
For fans of Ex Machina or Annihilation, director Alex Garland’s miniseries Daves is a must-see. In the show, Sonoya Mizuna plays Lily Chan, a software engineer at Amaya, a fictional Silicon Valley tech company. Her world is turned upside down when her lover and co-worker Sergei mysteriously dies, and she begins to wonder if there is something more sinister behind his death.
Criticisms of the show’s slow pacing are… fair, although I found it worked for Daves. I watched every episode the night it came out during the pandemic and couldn’t get enough. The psychological depth explored by the show is thought-provoking, and I found the acting of the lead cast to be a major selling point. Nick Offerman is certainly great as Amaya CEO Forrest, but the real stars for me were the duo of Stewart (Stephen McKinley Henderson) and Lyndon (Kelly), who both work on the “Daves” team at Amaya, which the show refers to as Is taken in. From its name.

mrs america
Full disclosure, if you tell me any TV show, miniseries, or movie starring Cate Blanchett, I’ll probably like it. She is – and this is just my opinion – the greatest actress of all time. And, spoiler ALERTMrs. America does nothing to discourage me from that opinion.
That being said, the rest of the cast is also incredible, with Uzo Aduba, Margo Martindale and Tracey Ullman all earning Emmy Award nominations in addition to Blanchett for their performances as Shirley Chisholm, Bella Abzug and Betty Friedan respectively. Aduba also won for her portrayal of Chisholm. And there are so many other great actresses in this Hulu miniseries that I really don’t have enough space to list them all.
Starring Blanchett as Phyllis Schlafly, Mrs. America is a dramatic retelling of Schlafly’s real-life effort to prevent passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, a proposed U.S. Constitutional amendment designed to provide equal rights for all American citizens regardless of gender. Was designed to guarantee legal rights. This miniseries not only explores that battle and the women on both sides of it, but also explores how that battle would shape American political consciousness in the future. If ever there was a mini-series, it is very commendable.

under the banner of heaven
I’m sure by this point you’ve noticed a pattern with many of these miniseries. They are often based on existing source material (books) or real-life events, or both. they also occur frequently dark. Under the Banner of Heaven ticks all those boxes. Based on the acclaimed true crime book by Jon Krakauer, this Hulu miniseries focuses on the 1984 murder of Brenda Lafferty and her daughter Erica, who were both members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), commonly known as Known from. mormon.
Although it is based on real life events, the show is largely dramatized. Although it draws elements from real life, it is largely a work of fiction. That being said, it is an incredible work of fiction, combining a thrilling procedural with thought-provoking insight into a main character struggling with his shaking faith in the face of brutality. Andrew Garfield’s performance as the main character, Detective Jeb Pierre, is incredible and you’ll be ready to watch this miniseries once the first episode credits roll.
