Around 100 promising Basque sailboats took off at the OptiGetxo regatta in Abra.
The esplanade of the Real Club Marítimo del Abra sports club, located in the area closest to its José Luis de Ugarte sailing school, has been filled with Optimist class boats and sailors since the early hours of a sunny Saturday in Cantabria. About a hundred young hopes of Basque sailing – from the organizing club, as well as the Hondarribia Nautical Club, the San Sebastian Nautical Club, the Vitoria Nautical Club, the Alava Nautical Club and the Pakeha Club – took to sea on the first day of the new OptiGetxo regatta, in which three The north-east wind was blowing along the routes in the Biscay waters of Abra. Starting at 14:00, after the wind arrived and attempts were made to start the race, the first qualifying start was given by the Race Committee at a wind speed of 12 knots.
The first round was won by interim leader Nicolas Bastard from Real Maritimo del Abra – Real Sporting, with Iñigo Jauregui and Martina Amunarriz from Nautico de Hondarribia finishing second and third. Andrea Criado from the organizing club took first place in the under 13 category, Lola Criado took second place and Ignacio Bujan third. Miquel Martinez from Hondarribia started with a win in the under 11 category.
Nicholas Bastard also won the second race, followed by Iñigo Jauregui again, this time with Telmo Baquerisa in third position. Andrea Periotto was best in the under-13 boys and Mikel Martinez won again in the under-11s. The third scoring test went to Inigo Jauregui, who shares first place with Nicholas Bastard. Alba Lorenzo from Alava won the under 11 category.
This OptiGetxo regatta, which will be decided on the second day this Sunday and with three more routes planned, is organized by the Real Club Maritimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club and its sailing school José Luis de Ugarte in collaboration with the Vizcaina and Vasca de Vela Federations. the city council of Getxo and the provincial council of Vizcaya.
