exceeded all expectations: the number of participants exceeded 100,000 people.

It was a mobile phone, like the previous ones. The general feeling we had this week was that it was a technology expo full of people. Mobile phones, prototypes, cars, robots and a lot of artificial intelligence. These are some of the words that come to mind when I consider MWC 2024. And now there are numbers to confirm that this year’s event was one of the largest in memory.

MWC 2024 collected 101,000 visitors, which exceeded GSMA expectations (about 95,000 participants). With this figure, we have finally managed to reach pre-pandemic levels. By comparison, Mobile attracted 88,500 people last year. The record was set in 2019, when the event was attended by 109,000 people.

MWC is just as big, but less mobile

According to the organization, about 60% of participants are associated with industries related to the mobile ecosystem, although, as we have already noted these days, MWC tone becomes more general.

In total, 2,700 exhibitors and visitors from 205 countries took part in the event, and more than 2,600 journalists registered to cover the event. According to the GSMA, 26% of all participants were women. A percentage that has not changed since last year.

The 'different' Mobile World Congress: Here's how you'll see the inside of mobile's biggest event

Getting around the fair was difficult at times. What has been improved in this release is the QR code entry and multiple doors to avoid queues despite the morning rush hour. The Fira de Barcelona is a venue capable of hosting over 100,000 visitors, but it seems clear that change is needed if Mobile is to take a step forward.

Planning calls for the opening of Hall 0. The 63,000 square meter space should be ready by 2026 and will allow increase power by 25% mobile visitors. Completing this MWC leaves good numbers and good feelings; Let’s see if next year the number of new features will also be at the proper level.
