“They opened their own studio at Sony.” According to rumors, PlayStation was going to create a new team from former Deviation Games developers.
A former developer at Deviation Games (a studio that closed last March) said on LinkedIn that many of the team’s employees have “started their own studio at Sony.”
In the video game industry, there are many games that end up being cancelled, often with their hardware disappearing. Such was the fate of Deviation Games last March. studio created by Call of Duty veterans How Jason Blundell who partnered with PlayStation to launch title as a service. True, it was eventually canceled, but it seems that many of the developers from this team created another one within the ranks of Sony.
This information comes to light thanks to Michael Anthony, a former employee of Deviation Games, who says the following on his LinkedIn profile. “Hey, I heard that a lot Former employees of Deviation Games opened their own studio at Sony working on a new undisclosed IP,” he explains. While there is still no confirmation from Sony, everything points to this being a new PlayStation Studios, or at least a new collaboration.
Anthony goes on to mention that his exes are high-level developers. “All the people I see working there first class developers and I hope you can create it new IP first class collaboration with their studio, which will hopefully give them the time they need to create quality product and you won’t have to deal with the bureaucracy of previous projects,” he explains (via VGC).
Is PlayStation creating a new studio?
It is known that Jason Blundell left Deviation Games in September 2022, but all indications are that Treyarch Veteran is participating in this new study. Former Deviation Games developer JC Farmer commented X/Twitter the following in December last year: “I’ve been wanting to say this for a long time, but finally I can! Junior Game Designer at PlayStation Studios. And I work for Jason Blundell.
This former Activision employee played a very important role in the Call of Duty saga, as he was responsible for direct zombie mode in some Black Ops games, as he was a key part of its development and evolution. Deviation Games closed down a couple of months ago, but it looks like a new studio has been born, employing quite a few of the same team. We will be attentive to future developments.
