Inflation in Asturias rose to 3.3% in April compared to the same month in 2023, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published yesterday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). This is an increase of two tenths compared to the March figure and an increase for the second month in a row. Moreover, it puts Asturias’ CPI at the same level as the national one, although it was below average.

Oils and fats were the products that registered the largest increase in the region compared to April last year (46.1%) and were also the most expensive for the year (11.1%). These were followed in year-to-year terms by fresh fruit (19.3%), lamb (8.9%), fresh and frozen fish (7.8%), children’s shoes (7.5%) and men’s shoes (6.9%). ). In turn, fresh legumes and vegetables (-8.8%), canned fruits and nuts (-8.7%), as well as textiles and home accessories (-5.7%) depreciated the most.

Now all attention is focused on the restoration of VAT on basic food products (bread, flour, milk, vegetables and fruits), scheduled for June 1. From the end of 2022, these products are included in the package of anti-crisis measures and have 0% VAT.
