Meryl Streep is set to begin negotiations for Mamma Mia 3

It’s a real case of Mamma Mia and here we go again as not only are we getting a third movie, but Meryl Streep has given us the latest on how things are going.

Yes, we know what you’re thinking. How can she return when her character supposedly died years before the sequel? We’re not exactly sure how they’re going to pull it off either, but hey, it’s Hollywood.

Last May, producer Judy Cramer revealed that a third film was already in development, but it was “in the very early stages” and now it looks like Meryl is about to enter talks with the powers that be.

Meryl told Deadline: “I don’t know how they’re going to do it. They have an idea. I haven’t heard it yet, but it’s there (in my journal) and I’ll hear about it pretty soon… Of course I want to do it. I think people like it.”

Amanda Seyfried has already said she’d like to jump on board. And Bjorn Ulvaeus, one of the original members of ABBA, also said that he would be willing to star in a third film if he came up with the right idea.

According to Deadline, Judy has found a way to incorporate Streep’s character Donna into the story and believes Meryl Streep could be convinced to rejoin the cast.

Judy also revealed that there was always going to be a third film as they were meant to be a trilogy. She has hinted in the past that new songs featured in ABBA’s virtual reality show could appear in the new film.

Judy already has actors knocking down her door to appear in the sequel when the project picks up, including Alexander Skarsgård, and for good reason.

The actor’s father Stellan appeared as Bill in the first two films and also played Meryl Streep’s son in Big Little Lies, so he’s a perfect fit.

According to Digital Spy, Alexander said he would “100%” agree to appear in Mamma Mia 3 if it meant working with Meryl.

To this day, between shows, films, and albums, Mamma Mia has earned $4 billion, so as you can imagine, a third film will certainly increase that number for the better.

We can’t wait to watch it!
