The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid announced this Saturday that it has authorized investments over 20 million euros to purchase more than 1.5 million doses of seasonal influenza vaccine for the 2024/2025 campaign, which begins next fall.
Thus, the budget includes 1,550,000 doses, almost 3% more than those administered by the Madrid Public Health System during the previous campaign, according to the Community of Madrid in a press release.
These include several types of immunization: 980,000 adjuvanted vaccine, which will be prescribed to people aged 60 years and older; another 70,000 are a heavy burden for those in this age group in nursing homes; and 500,000 quadrivalent inactivated vaccine aimed at people under 60 years of age who are at risk (pregnant women, chronically ill people, medical and social workers, etc.) and minors aged 6 months to five years.

Considering that in the previous season, 1,509,676 doses were vaccinated, received between October 2023 and April 2024, the Ministry of Health reached another 67,516 people than in the 2022/23 season, reaching a coverage rate of 69.1% for people over 65 years of age.
