The most common mistakes when measuring blood pressure: how to avoid them
Every year, World High Blood Pressure Day is celebrated on May 17th.a silent and deadly disease that rarely shows symptoms, but despite this warning, It is the risk factor causing the most deaths.
“High blood pressure is killing us and there is no way to stop its spread.”, says Dr. Luis Moy Jimenez, president of the Colombian League Against Heart Attacks and Hypertension. The specialist assures that cardiovascular diseases continue to rise. Last year, 20 million people died from these diseases, ten million of them from hypertension. “Unless we change our recommendations to stop this pandemic, it will continue to be the leading cause of death in the world,” he says.
Diagnosing hypertension is very easy: just measure your blood pressure. Ideally it should be at 120/80, if it is above 140/90 then you are already hypertensive and need to turn on alerts..
However, in many cases, errors are made when measuring blood pressure.
