This Monday, Microsoft unveiled new developer tools to help usher in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) both in the Windows ecosystem with Copilot and with new tools that allow customers to personalize their apps and experiences.
Microsoft has made it clear that we are facing a new era of artificial intelligence and that this is just the beginning of what this technology is capable of, which is why it introduced new products for developers at its annual Build 2024 event.
CEO Satya Nadella, at the opening of the event, spoke about the speed of progress, which has reduced the laws of scaling to just six months, and how models such as GPT have allowed unprecedented innovation to spread in recent years.
In this context, he recalled that Copilot is a Microsoft companion in people’s daily lives, with new add-ons and connectors that expand its functionality. In addition, Microsoft Copilot Studio includes new agent features that will enable you to create co-pilots that can proactively respond to data and events, tailored to specific tasks and functions.
This Monday, the Copilot ecosystem expanded to include a new category of Windows PCs, the Copilot+ PC, which will be able to control AI directly from the hardware and will also support AI features built into the entire operating system.
To enable developers to integrate their AI capabilities into this operating system, the company introduced the Windows Copilot Runtime, which includes a library of more than 40 AI models that run on the device and leads to the Windows Copilot Stack, a platform that lets you create personalized “co-pilots”.
New Windows AI features include the addition of a Phi Silica model designed specifically for the NPU of Copilot+ computers; and support for PyTorch with DirectML, allowing Hugging Face models to be used on that operating system.
For web application development, Microsoft announced the Web Neural Network (WebNN), which is available in developer preview. And to improve productivity, Dev Home adds new features such as environments, WSL improvements, DevDrive, and WinUI3 and WPF updates.

Copilot extensions are also coming, including add-ons and connectors, to connect to new data sources and applications, expanding its functionality.
DEVELOPMENT AND SOLUTIONS FOR CLIENTS
GitHub’s AI development tool Copilot already has 1.8 million paid subscribers and has expanded with the first set of extensions developed by Microsoft and partners, which developers can find in private preview.
With these extensions, developers can customize their GitHub Copilot experience using their preferred services, such as Azure, Docker, Sentry, and more, right from the GitHub Copilot chat.
As for Azure AI, which offers various solutions for building artificial intelligence applications, Microsoft has confirmed the availability of GPT-4o, the latest model of OpenAI, which you can find in Azure AI Studio and as an API. A new small multimodal language model Phi-3-vision from the Phi-3 family has also been added.
To enable AI adoption, Microsoft introduced the MI300X accelerator in collaboration with AMD and announced the availability of Azure ND MI300X v5 virtual machines, optimized for demanding AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads, as an Azure OpenAI service.
The company also announced a preview of the new ARM-based Cobalt 100 virtual machines as they feature Microsoft’s new Cobalt processor, purpose-built on the ARM architecture and optimized for efficiency and performance when running general purpose and native workloads in the cloud. Delivers up to 40% faster performance than equivalent Azure virtual machines.
Additionally, he shared that the company will offer Nvidia configurations later in the year, including Nvidia DGX integration with Fabric for training models and building intelligent applications.
Additionally, Microsoft Fabric has introduced new real-time intelligence to provide a comprehensive software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution that enables customers to process high volume, time-sensitive, and highly granular data to make better, faster, and more informed decisions.
Additionally, the new Microsoft Fabric workload development kit allows independent developers and software vendors to extend the capabilities of applications on the platform by creating a unified user experience.
On the other hand, Microsoft has announced a new collaboration with Cognition to offer its customers Devin, a standalone software agent that will help them solve complex tasks such as code migrations and modernization projects. It will run on the Azure platform.
