Missouri state legislator details murder of son-in-law in Haiti

(CNN) — Missouri state Rep. Ben Baker said during an interview that aired Saturday on Fox News that his son-in-law, Dewey Lloyd, died in Haiti “defending his daughter Natalie to the end.”

Baker, who paused at times to hold back tears, said the two missionaries were “leaving youth service” Thursday when a gang “beat Davey, tied him up, beat him more, took things and stole.”

“He (Davey) tried to park a big truck in front of them after they left and then another gang came and shots were fired and all this stuff was going on, we have very limited details,” Baker said.

Baker said they both died “serving and loving people until the very end,” adding that they were “a perfect example of selfless service to others and loving people, even when that love was one-sided.”

The politician said he was proud of the “heart he has for Haiti, despite all the problems there.”

“They loved the kids, they loved the ministry there, and really their impact will be something we’ll never fully know,” he said.

A family statement released early Saturday said there were “several incredibly viable options to bring Davey and Natalie home.”

“We are pursuing all options until one presents itself that is the quickest, most cost-effective, and most certain and safest. Many people have stepped forward to help and the family is very grateful,” the statement said.
