US Supreme Court rejects move to limit access to key abortion pill
The Supreme Court of the United States will reject this Thursday an appeal to limit access to the abortion pill mifepristone, lThe most common in the North American country, a symbolic victory for the Biden administration which, however, does not examine the essence of the issue.
Various US courts had ruled on the drug in recent years, and a group of doctors opposed to abortion took the case to the Supreme Court, which ultimately rejected the appeal for procedural reasons.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh explained in the ruling, Although “many” citizens, including plaintiffs, may object to the use of mifepristone, they have not demonstrated the extent to which they would be harmed Due to alleged poor regulation, CNN reports.
Therefore the magistrates uphold its regulation Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from the United States, which would allow the pills to continue being delivered by mail to patients without a prescription.
The decision is relevant because it is the first ruling issued by the Supreme Court on sexual and reproductive rights since it struck down a landmark ruling in 2022 that established the right to abortion across the country. The high court has had a solid conservative majority since Donald Trump’s time in the White House.
