Cristiano and Pepe are making history!

In Portugal’s first European Cup match against the Czech Republic, Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe made history, each in a different role. The striker became the first player to play at six European Championships, while the defender became the oldest player to play at one: 41 years and 113 days.

Cristiano made his debut in the 2004 European Cup, which was held on Portuguese soil. Then he was in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020.. He will go down in history with his participation in the 2024 competition, as no footballer has previously had the honor of participating in so many European team competitions.

Pepe, for his part, has now gone down in history as the oldest player in the European Championship. His 41 years and 113 days are the longest anyone has spent on the playing field in this competition. In this respect, he surpasses Kiraly (Hungary), who set a record of 40 years and 86 days. Cristiano was third at 39 years and 134 days.

Two institutions of Portuguese football, Pepe and Cristiano, who remain active and start in the Portuguese team. A real feat on the part of both of them.
