Joe Biden will meet his family to talk about his political future
WASHINGTON (EFE).- The President of the United States, Joe Biden, plans to hold talks with his family this Sunday at the Camp David residence about the future of his re-election campaign, NBC reported this Saturday, citing five sources knowledgeable of the matter.
However, an administration official assured press traveling with the president that NBC News’ “premise” is “not accurate.”
Biden and the first lady, Jill Biden, will spend Sunday at Camp David, where the president has stayed for six days ahead of Thursday’s debate against former Republican President Donald Trump (2017-2021), who will be the Republican nominee for November’s elections.
A debate that brings the Biden family together
Biden’s performance in the debate, where his voice sounded hoarse and he had difficulty finishing some sentences, has raised concerns within the party about his ability to defeat Trump and govern for the next four years due to his age, 81, which makes him the oldest president in United States history.
One of the sources cited by NBC said the meeting at Camp David, where Biden plans to meet some of his grandchildren, will not be a formal family gathering to discuss his political future.
“Any discussions about the campaign are expected to be informal or secondary,” the source told NBC. “No one will sit down for any formal or decisive discussions,” the source added.
Support in the face of unleashed terror
Some of the most important figures in the Democratic Party have publicly shown their support for Biden, but several Democratic sources quoted by the American media have assured that after the debate “panic” spread within the party and, in some cases, it even led to the request that an alternative candidate be found.
Former President Barack Obama (2009-2017) was among the celebrities who showed their support for Biden on Friday, saying in a statement that “bad debate nights” just happen.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton (1993–2001), have also endorsed Biden in Christmas, urging Americans to compare him to the alternative: Donald Trump.
Other congressional leaders such as the Democratic Minority Leader in the House, Hakeem Jeffries, his predecessor, Nancy Pelosi, and the influential African-American legislator from South Carolina, Jim Clyburn, have publicly endorsed Biden.
However, according to NBC, he has privately expressed concerns about her viability as a candidate.
