Should Bellingham’s goal have gone up on the scoreboard?

Jude Bellingham scored a great goal into the net Slovakia in the 1/8 final match European Cup that England were playing in Gelsenkirchen. At the start of the frantic comeback, it was assumed that Harry Kane’s 2-1 climax would soon be reached. The Real Madrid midfielder scored a goal and sent one of the favourite teams into the quarter-finals.

There’s no going back. But should Jude’s goal have gone up on the scoreboard? There’s a video floating around online showing it could well have been disallowed. The reason? City defender Kyle Walker clearly stepped out on the line during the throw-in before the Real Madrid player’s goal. It’s a more common offence than you might think.

Many internet users have already expressed their disbelief that the infringement went unnoticed. “Kyle Walker crossed the line: if I were Slovakian I would be furious,” says one. “Did the rules change after the throw-in?
