Keir Starmer promised to “rebuild” the United Kingdom and appointed his ministers hours after winning the election Country Express

Keir Starmer will be the 58th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The Labour Party has returned to government with a landslide victory after 14 years in opposition.

  • Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak has taken over the responsibility after losing more than 200 delegates and has announced he will resign when a successor is in place.
  • In their appearances, both leaders have praised the work and achievements of their rival.

And now that? In his first address to the nation he promised to “rebuild the United Kingdom” and pursue the aims he had declared in the campaign: improved public health and education, new infrastructure, affordable energy, and safer streets.

Prime Ministers. King Charles III appointed Starmer to form a government and just hours later he selected his new Cabinet with the aim of starting to make decisions this week.

  • The party’s number two, Angela Rayner, will be deputy prime minister and minister for territorial balance.
  • Rachel Reeves will become the first female Chancellor of the Exchequer in the history of the United Kingdom.
  • Shabana Mahmood will head the Ministry of Justice.
  • David Lammy will be foreign secretary.
  • Wes Streeting Minister of Health.
  • And John Healey, a veteran of Gordon Brown’s previous Labour government, will hold the defence portfolio.
