Ukraine destroys ammunition depot in Voronezh with drones – DW – 07/07/2024
Ukrainian sources confirmed the destruction of a large ammunition depot in the southern Russian region of Voronezh by drones of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) this Sunday (07/07/2024). “There remains a high probability of sudden explosions at facilities of the Russian defense industry, which is supporting the war against Ukraine, in the near future,” a source in this service said in a statement to “Ukrainska Pravda”.
Russian regional authorities earlier reported downing several drones last night, whose falling fragments caused a fire in a warehouse and then detonation of explosive items. “Part of the road through the city was blocked. Citizens are being evacuated to shelters. Emergency services are working at the scene,” Voronezh governor, Alexander Gusev, wrote. “The fire has already been brought under control. There were no casualties,” he added.
Russia claims to have taken control of a new village in eastern Ukraine
Russian army units “liberated the town of Chigary in the Donetsk People’s Republic” (DNR), the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. In this way, Russian forces “have improved their tactical position,” it said. On Saturday, Russia reported that its troops also took control of another village in Donetsk, one of the Ukrainian regions that Moscow annexed in 2022.
Russia’s Defense Ministry also said in a statement that two Patriot missile batteries and a radar station were destroyed in a strike with Iskander-M missiles in the area of the Black Sea port of Yuzhne. Commenting on a video of the attack circulating on social media, Ukrainian air force commander Mykola Oleshchuk said in a Telegram post on Saturday night that Russia had attacked fake systems used as false props.
