Will Thomas, farewell to the model professional / Official website of Unicaja Basketball

Will Thomas retires from professional basketball. The player, born in Baltimore on July 1, 1986, thus puts an end to a truly impressive career, which ended with two memorable seasons with our club – the 2023 Copa del Rey and the 2024 BCL. Will Thomas will be part of the golden club of Unicaja history.

In his 4 seasons with our team at two different stages (2014-16 and 2022-24), he became a true Karpena idol, enjoying the talent of his left foot and knowledge of the game in every match. “Will, Will, Will” was one of the most frequent chants over the last two wonderful seasons in our “Martin Karpena”, sung from the stands to cheer and enjoy the game of the Baltimore player.

If we look at the statistics, so typical for our sport, Will Thomas has been the most reliable player in the history of our Club, the numbers speak for themselves. In 4 seasons spent in Unicaja, he played 248 out of 251 possible games, missing only 3 games. In the first 3 years he played 100% of the team’s games, and last season, by decision of the coaching staff, he rested in 3 games.

These 248 games out of a possible 251 played by Will Thomas at Unicaja represent 98.80% of the games played during his time with our team. No player in the history of our Club who has played more than 200 games has achieved such a percentage. Something truly incredible, which speaks volumes about the superb professionalism of Will Thomas, who also counts on a certain amount of luck to avoid injuries. Of course, he never missed a game at the Martin Carpena with Unicaja, playing perhaps 124 matches during those four seasons in Malaga.

In this ranking, the next players who seem most reliable in terms of being ready to take the court are Kenny Miller (96.88%) and Nacho Rodriguez (96.62%).

With these 248 games played for Unicaja, Will Thomas ranks twelfth among the players with the most games played for our club, being the third foreigner in this table, behind only Kenny Miller (280) and Adam Waczynski (273). Among the many other data he has accumulated with our jersey, he stands out for being the 7th best in our history in offensive rebounds (362) and tenth in total rebounds (949).

It’s also worth noting that Will Thomas has left his mark and made history on almost every team he’s played for. From his George Mason University, where he played in the NCAA Final Four, to each of the 10 teams we’ve enjoyed in Europe.
