Here’s how Portrait Studio, Samsung’s AI that turns portraits into drawings, works.

This week, Samsung unveiled its new foldable smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, which come with some new AI features.

One of those that has attracted the most attention is Portrait studio, which allows you to transform a portrait into a drawing in one of the following styles: comic, 3D animation, watercolor or sketch. The function generates four sample images of the selected style, which you can save to your phone if you like them.

Each time you run the function, you get slightly different results. The drawing generation is based only on the person’s face, so even if you change the photo, the results won’t change much if the person is the same.

Testing the Portrait Studio feature

We tested this feature on two portraits and the results are generally good, although there are always images that exceed expectations.

What I like the most is the 3D animation style because it turns you into a character from an animated movie. The only thing missing is that it can be animated so that it can talk or move.
