The match kick-off was delayed by 30 minutes due to incidents
Incidents involving fans trying to enter the stadium without tickets forced the organisers to delay the start of the Copa America final by 30 minutes. The court doors are closed and hundreds of people with tickets are standing outside. The Argentina and Colombia players have stopped warming up and returned to the locker room.
The stadium is only a third full and there are only 10 minutes left before the scheduled kick-off time of the match before the suspension.
Tournament organizers and security forces agreed to open the stadium doors three hours before the final, fearing the crowds that would result from the combination of the tournament’s two largest fan bases. But five hours before kickoff, fans began gathering outside the Hard Rock, initially in a celebratory mood that grew increasingly tense as the doors approached.
Organizers closed the entrances as hundreds of fans began climbing over the stadium barriers and jumping the turnstiles. Once inside, they ran through various corridors to the stands. Florida police had to beef up security once order was restored, and within minutes they had arrested several fans who had entered without tickets.
