To enjoy the Paris Olympics, take care of your health

Geneva, July 20 (Prensa Latina) For those planning to participate as spectators in the 2024 Olympic or Paralympic Games in Paris, the World Health Organization (WHO Europe) and other agencies have developed recommendations aimed at their care, safety and general well-being.

Under the slogan “Take care of yourself and enjoy the Games!” WHO, the French Ministry of Health and Prevention, Santé publishing house, France and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

The document provides advice on a variety of topics, from vaccines travelers may need before traveling to information on how to protect themselves from illnesses such as respiratory illnesses and mosquito- and tick-borne diseases.

With scorching heat likely, the guide also offers tips on how to stay cool in the heat, prevent heat stroke and avoid dehydration.

And that’s not all, as it also includes information on sexual health and alcohol and tobacco use in France, as well as links to useful websites and phone numbers for anyone in need of medical help.

From July 26 to August 11, some 10,500 athletes will compete in the Olympic Games, representing 206 countries and the International Olympic Committee’s Refugee Olympic Team. The event is expected to attract some 15 million visitors, including two million from abroad.

Then, from August 28 to September 8, the Paralympic Games will see a record 3.4 million spectators witness more than 4,000 athletes with disabilities compete in 549 medal events.

“I encourage everyone to take advantage of the shared health advice to have a safe and enjoyable experience,” said Gundo Weiler, WHO/Europe’s Acting Regional Emergencies Director.
