empty hotels despite the Olympics

Just a week before the Olympics, Paris has become a problem as all indications are that the event may not attract the expected number of people (Air France with low demand due to the Olympics).

The information indicates that there has been no tourist boom. Last Friday, the number of hotels in the city was 81 percent booked, with prices very moderate precisely because they are not full. There are visitors, but this should be contrasted with the loss of French and even European travelers who have decided to leave the French capital these days. The authorities are still full of hope, but businessmen and shopping centers indicate that business is still not going well.

Rail company SNCF is repeating the same story, pointing out that there are still many tickets to be sold for the period of supposedly high demand. And Air France, which should have benefited more clearly from the event, is reporting losses of up to 180 million as bookings fall.

France has invested $7.5 billion to stage the Olympics, the first since the pandemic. Financial analysts believe that these games could be the first in which the accounts do not add up, despite the fact that not many venues had to be built.
