Lancia, Polestar and Renault are the three finalists for the PRISA Motor Awards in the ICON design category | ICON

When buying a car, there are many scales to consider. Consumption, for example, comfort, size, safety… There are always many details to evaluate to see if the car will meet all the needs required of it. However, there is one feature that stands out: design.

Good design is what makes someone fall in love with a vehicle, what transforms a simple car to get from A to B into something much more important, filled with emotion and a statement about the driver’s personality. After all, the shape of a car is the ultimate expression of everything that stands behind the design, conveying everything concrete and abstract that makes it more than just wheels. At the PRISA Motor Awards, which take place on September 18, ICON is responsible for the design of cars whose performance goes beyond simple packaging and achieves the perfect balance between functionality and appearance. Here are the finalists in this category:

Polestar 4

Polestar 4 redefines electric vehicle design with a masterful blend of aerodynamics and aesthetics. Eschewing the sedan silhouette of its predecessor, Polestar 2, the SUV has a robust and elegant profile, a sleek and refined design, without abandoning the brand’s signature lines, giving it a unique and instantly recognisable identity.

One of the most innovative and surprising elements is the absence of a rear window, allowing the panoramic sunroof to extend beyond the rear seats, creating a visual experience for all passengers. This design solution is made possible by replacing the traditional rearview mirror with a screen that projects images captured by a roof-mounted camera in real time, providing an unobstructed view to the rear.

Lancia Upsilon

The new Lancia Ypsilon represents a radical change in design, raising its status to an unprecedented level of elegance and sophistication. This hatchback Urban completely abandons the lines of its predecessor and adopts the sophisticated style of the brand’s new scene, presented in the Pu+Ra HPE prototype, combining modernity with references to historical elements, especially in its characteristic back.

Inside, Lancia’s designers have created a warm and enveloping atmosphere, where every detail, from the seats to the original central table, has been designed to create a living room-like feel.

As the first premium B-segment hatchback under the Stellantis brand, the Ypsilon marks a major milestone for the brand, positioning itself alongside Alfa Romeo and DS at the top of the range. Produced at the Figuelas plant in Zaragoza, the model is expected to arrive in Spain at the end of the year, consolidating its presence on the market in 2025.

Renault 5

The Renault 5, a true automotive icon, returns with a renewed spirit that combines nostalgia and modernity in its electric version. This iconic compact model, known for its carefree spirit, is renewed with a design that captures the essence of the past and looks decisively to the future.

Renault R5
The Renault Turbo legend returns with a modern design and electric motorisation.

Customization options are one of the strengths of this new model. The shells will be available in a palette of bright and bold colors such as yellow and green, in addition to classic options such as white, black and navy blue. Inside, unique combinations of fabrics will be offered for your seats, including those made from recycled plastic bottles.

The Renault 5 is not only a joy to look at, but also to drive, retaining the fun and accessible spirit that has always distinguished it, now with an eco-friendly and contemporary approach that makes it a true pop icon for a new era.
