Extremadura confirms its first two cases of Nile virus, adding to 13 in Seville and Huelva
Extremadura confirms first two cases of Nile virus infection: A 66-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman, who join the 13 already confirmed by the Junta de Andalucía this week between the provinces of Seville and Huelva.
As for the Extremadurans, both are stablealthough they remain in the hospital.
For its part, the Ministry of Health of the Government of Andalusia reported last week that 13 new cases of the Nile virus were confirmed in six people from Dos Hermanas, three from Coria del Rio, one from La Puebla del Rio, another from Mairena del Aljarafe and one in Alcalá de Guadaira in the province of Seville and the last in Campofrio (Huelva).
According to a statement released this evening by the Council, of these 13 cases, 11 have already been discharged. On the other hand, the presence of the West Nile virus (WNV) was detected in the capture of the virus in the Seville municipalities of Gelves and Dos Hermanas, as well as in Barbate and Jerez de la Frontera in the province of Cadiz.
Likewise, the Ministry of Health reports that the Doñana Biological Station also detected the presence of the virus in mosquitoes caught last week in the Seville municipalities of La Puebla del Rio, Coria del Rio and Palomares del Rio, but it was not detected in traps in the center of La Puebla del Rio.
The Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs insists on this. the need for the population to take preventive measures to avoid mosquito bites during the hours of greatest activity of the species that carry this disease (in the hours close to dawn and after dusk), both individually – using registered repellents for topical application and light clothing that covers most of the skin – and at home – using mosquito nets or ecological repellents, especially for vulnerable groups of the population with weakened immunity.
