Health Ministry recalls some approved infusions from the market due to cardiovascular health risks

The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products has found ingredients harmful to health in doses so high that they can be considered drugs.

The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS), a division of the Ministry of Health, has ordered the recall of some products from the market due to their risk to the heart. Their labels do not list sibutramine and sildenafil, substances that can cause harm to health.

According to the AEMPS, its consumption has been associated with acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, ventricular arrhythmia, palpitations, tachycardia, stroke, and even sudden cardiac death, more present in patients with a history of cardiovascular risk factors for which it would be contraindicated.

The products that have been removed from the market include Soraya capsules, HHS Kuka Café, Soraya Slim Coffee Café, Lipo Solution and detox tea. All of them, when listed in AEMPS, are analyzed for certain amounts of sibutramine, which is an appetite suppressant and poses some serious health risks.

Its distribution was already cancelled in 2010 for this reason, sibutramine was included in prescription drugs intended for the treatment of obesity, but its marketing was suspended in the European Union (EU) because its consumption was associated with serious side effects of the cardiovascular type.

In addition, the detox tea contained sildenafil, a drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction by selectively inhibiting the PDE-5 enzyme, which is contraindicated in many patients, such as those suffering from angina, heart failure, uncontrolled arrhythmias or hypotension, and others.

According to AEMPS, the coffee and infusions contained doses of both substances high enough to be considered drugs. Both ingredients are not listed on their labels, which violates regulations. Its sale is prohibited.
