Preowned is your portal for buying and selling between individuals.

Ikea has chosen Oslo and Madrid as the only two cities where Preowned products will be launched. This is the Swedish giant’s new platform for promoting private sales. Wallapop furniture, where we can buy some of their products for less than half their retail price.

Both cities have been selected to host the first tests of the platform before the end of the year. If they are successful, the goal of expanding them to all countries where they are present will be maintained.

“Used” means “pre-owned”. At IKEA, we offer you this new platform where, if you want, you can connect with other people to buy and sell your used IKEA products. The platform is supported by a service provider called Archive. IKEA is not responsible for any actions and relationships that may be established between people, even through this platform.”

IKEA washes its hands. The first thing IKEA tells us when looking at the FAQ is that they are not responsible for any actions taken on their platform. This is managed by Archive, the giant responsible for providing this service.

One immediate consequence is that, as on other platforms such as Wallapop or Milanuncios, changes or returns are not allowed. According to Ikea, this is due to the unique features of each item and the fact that IKEA is not a seller of used goods.

If we have paid for an item and it is not in good condition, we can report the problem within 48 hours of purchase. We will need to upload photos of the item, as well as the parts we are not satisfied with, and we will receive a refund.

If you no longer wish to purchase an item, or if it was not described correctly by the seller, you can cancel your reservation at any time by clicking the “Cancel” button in the “Order History” section of your profile. You will be refunded automatically.

Here are three scenarios in which IKEA allows returns:

• Significant undeclared damage
• Incorrect or missing product (or missing parts of product not listed in the post)
• This is not an original IKEA product.

“Your return request must include a description of why you believe your purchase should be returned and photos to support your request. IKEA will review your return request. If approved, your refund will be issued to your original payment method. It may take up to 7 days to appear in your account.”

For Madrid residents only. At the moment, IKEA used goods only work in Madrid. And no, you can’t pay for the goods and order delivery. At least not if you want to make a purchase from within the platform.

We have to meet the seller and pick up the furniture ourselves, they don’t have the option to bring it home. This is one aspect where second-hand platforms lag even further behind other second-hand platforms, although there is nothing stopping us from contacting through the app and closing the purchase outside of it.

Product Status. If we want to upload a used product to IKEA, its condition must be at least acceptable – with minor defects. In particular, these are the three conditions that we will see in the application.

• like new: no signs of use, no scratches or cracks, in packaging.
• Fine: minor signs of use, but the item has been well looked after.
• Used: used for a long time with visible defects, but still functions.

The testing of used vehicles will continue until December, when decisions will be made on further steps.
