WhatsApp will stop working on some phones

WhatsApp will stop working on some mobile phones. The app will soon be compatible only with devices running iOS 14.1 or higher. And on Android, Android 5.0 or higher is still the minimum requirement for the app to remain active. But what happened? WhatsApp has updated its minimum requirements. And there’s already a date.

The company itself clarifies on its website that this will happen from February 24, 2025, when only devices with iOS 14.1 and later versions will be supported.

WhatsApp currently recommends the following devices for which it offers support

  1. 1

Phones running Android 5.0 and later

  2. 2

Phones running iOS 12 and later*

This is where the fine print states that starting February 24, 2025, only devices running iOS 14.1 and later will be supported.

And how WhatsApp decides which operating systems are compatible. Devices and software change frequently, so we periodically review the operating systems we support and make updates accordingly. Every year we analyze which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest users. These devices may also lack the latest security updates or features needed to run WhatsApp.

What to do if the system is no longer compatible? Before we stop supporting your operating system, you will receive a notification on WhatsApp and be reminded several times to update it. We will update this page regularly to ensure it has the latest operating systems we support.
