In the 2024–2025 season, universal vaccination against influenza will be carried out in all autonomous okrugs and cities of infants and children aged 6 to 59 months, as well as children with risk diseases of any age. The main innovation of CAV-AEP is that vaccination against influenza in children and adolescents aged 5 to 18 years who are not at risk is a recommended measure. Introduction

Each year, CAV-AEP publishes its recommendations for influenza vaccination in children and adolescents, based on a review of the existing literature on the effectiveness and safety of available vaccines (see pediatric vaccines available this year, also in the attached document). image), as well as analysis of the experience of previous seasons.

The current season continues the novelty of last year, which involves the inclusion of children from 6 to 59 months in the risk group, especially since the vaccine is funded. Last season SS.·AA. They have already funded a vaccine for this age group with coverage ranging from 33 to 55%. This year, we believe action must be taken to achieve higher coverage.

The current flu vaccination campaign will begin in October. The importance of achieving high influenza vaccination coverage is emphasized. The goals proposed by the Ministry of Health are:

• Coverage is 75% among people aged 65 years and over, as well as among specialists from health and social care centers.
• Coverage 60% among pregnant women and people at risk.
• For children 6 to 59 months, no coverage targets have been established.

Seasonal vaccination during pregnancy

In this update, we also want to emphasize the importance of seasonal influenza vaccination during pregnancy, as pregnant women have a higher risk of more severe illness, complications, and hospitalization from influenza than women of reproductive age. This is why WHO has been prioritizing influenza vaccination for pregnant women since 2012.

The vaccine protects not only the pregnant woman, but also the fetus and unborn child in the first months of life. A large number of studies confirm the safety of influenza vaccination in any trimester of pregnancy. The vaccines used are non-adjuvanted inactivated vaccines.

Vaccination of health workers

Vaccination of healthcare workers is of particular importance not only for individual but also collective protection when in contact with vulnerable people, and also helps prevent sick leave and thereby reduce strain on services during periods of peak demand.

However, adherence to influenza vaccination among these professionals is quite low. CAV-AEP recommends annual influenza vaccination in the following groups (see infographic):
