The United States bombs Yemen again – DW – 10/04/2024

This Friday (04/10/2024), US bombardment hit three cities controlled by Houthi rebels in Yemen, including the capital Sanaa and the port of Hodeida, according to the rebel-run Al Masirah television network. The United States confirmed that it attacked positions of Yemen’s Shia Houthi rebels to protect freedom of navigation and strengthen security in international waters.

Al Masira reported four US bombings in Sanaa and seven in Hodeidah, where AFP correspondents heard the explosions, and the attacks also included Dhamar, south of the Yemeni capital. Al-Masirah did not say whether there was damage or casualties. “The Army’s Central Command (CENTCOM) bombed 15 Houthi positions in areas of Yemen controlled by the ‘Iranian-backed’ group,” the army command responsible for operations in the Middle East said on social media.

United States Central Command (CENTCOM) forces struck 15 Houthi positions in areas of Yemen controlled by the group, a defense official told EFE. “These targets included Houthi offensive military capabilities. These actions were taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safe for U.S., coalition, and merchant vessels,” he said in a written statement.

Since January, Washington has repeatedly attacked Houthi targets in Yemen in response to rebel attacks on ships sailing in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Israel also bombed the Houthis these days.
