Israeli forces launch a new incursion into northern Gaza

After a fierce overnight bombardment of northern Gaza, the Israeli army has launched a new operation in the Jabaliya area, which it has surrounded and sent reinforcements. According to a statement, this new attack aims to destroy the “terrorist” infrastructure of Hamas, which will try to “rebuild its capabilities” in Jabaliya.

The city has been severely punished since the war began nearly a year ago. When the Israeli army launched its attack on Gaza, the north of the Strip was its first objective and despite wiping out entire towns and habitability in the northern part, it did not manage to eliminate the presence of the Islamic group.

According to local officials, in addition to the attacks against the north, Israeli aircraft bombed a mosque and a school in the center of the strip, killing at least 24 people and injuring about a hundred. The buildings that were attacked served as shelter for hundreds of people displaced from their homes due to the war.

The Hamas-aligned Gazan government also condemned Israel’s stepped-up bombardment against the strip over the past 48 hours, killing dozens of people, including some 42,000 Palestinians, just days short of the war’s one-year anniversary. Nearly 100,000 people have been injured.

It is estimated that about 200,000 Palestinians live in northern Gaza; at the beginning of the war, the military told the Gaza population of this area to evacuate to the south of the strip.
