Israel again attacked the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon and bombed Beirut. Desh Express

This Friday, for the third consecutive day, Israel attacked a UN peacekeeping mission in the south of Lebanon, where it had launched a ground offensive 10 days earlier.

  • Two Sri Lankan peacekeepers were injured in an “explosion” at the headquarters and some protective walls were demolished by Israeli military vehicles.
  • Israeli troops also attacked UN peacekeepers on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • The Israeli military has claimed responsibility for the attacks, although it calls them “uncharacteristic”.

And what is the response of the United Nations? Before this latest attack took place, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described what happened as a “violation of international humanitarian law” and called for “maximum containment.”

  • UN peacekeepers have assured that they will remain in the area despite Israel warning them to move five kilometers north.

Meanwhile, bombing continues in Beirut and southern Lebanon:

  • At least 22 people have died in the last few hours due to bomb blasts in the Lebanese capital.
  • And nine other people were killed in attacks in two cities in southern Lebanon.
  • Meanwhile, the Lebanese militia Hezbollah claimed responsibility for three drone and rocket attacks against northern Israel this Friday.
  • And the Lebanese government has warned it is ready to deploy troops to the south of the country, and the pro-Iranian group Hezbollah “agrees”.
