Opponents of violence propose closing the Metropolitan Stadium for two weeks due to incidents with Atlético Madrid – Real Madrid

The Anti-Violence Commission of the Supreme Sports Council (CSD) has proposed a complete closure of the Metropolitan Stadium for 15 days and a €65,000 fine against Atlético Madrid for violent incidents that occurred during the latest Madrid derby.

The sanctions proposal put forward by Cadena Ser calls for a complete closure of Colchonero’s fiefdom due to the throwing of objects during the last Atlético Madrid-Real Madrid match, which particularly affected Merengue goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The red-and-white club has already been fined 45 thousand euros by the Professional Football League, which also closed the south stand of the stadium where the events took place. This sanction will apply for the next three games at the Metropolitano against Leganes, Las Palmas and Alaves.

Atlético Madrid appealed the sanction and expelled four players involved in violent incidents.

The club appealed the sanction to the Appeals Committee because it was considered “disproportionate”: “The unacceptable behavior of a few cannot lead to such excessive punishment in relation to the vast majority who have committed no wrongdoing.”
