The President of Georgia rejected the official results of the legislative elections

Madrid 27 October (Europa Press) –

Georgia’s President Salome Zurabishvili announced this Sunday that she has rejected the official results of the country’s legislative elections held on Saturday, which gave victory to the ruling party, considered pro-Russian, Georgian Dream.

The president appeared surrounded by opposition party leaders to condemn the “total fraud”, “outright theft” of the “Russian-style” elections.

“We have been witnesses and victims of a special Russian operation. They have hijacked our election commission,” he said, according to the Civil.ge news portal.

For this reason, he has called on citizens to demonstrate on Rustaveli Avenue next to the parliament headquarters on Monday evening at 7:00 pm, in order to “show the world that we do not recognize the Georgian results.” “Nothing can legitimize these elections,” he argued.

The Coalition for Change and the Unity-National Movement, the two main opposition organizations, have already announced that they will not participate in the new parliament.

“We are not going to legitimize the theft of votes from the Georgian people. We are going to renounce our records,” Nana Malaszia, head of the Coalition for Change, said in statements to the press.

From the Unidad-National Movement they have argued that “when we say we do not recognize the results it means that we are not going to enter the Parliament,” in the words of Tina Bokuchaeva, the leader of the formation.

The latest data published by the Central Election Commission gave the Georgian Dream party – considered pro-Russian – a total of 89 seats out of the 150 that make up the unicameral Georgian parliament, accounting for 54.08 percent of the vote. According to official figures, the Coalition for Change will have 18 seats, the Unity-National Movement will have 17 seats, Strong Georgia will have 14 seats and Gazaria for Georgia will have 12 seats, which is 3,100 out of 3,111 electoral districts. The analog count is still tentative.
