Narrator and rap shed light on making kids with ADHD visible
The Teruel Association for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder organized a day this Sunday in the Plaza del Torico to raise awareness of this pathology, with the aim of “raising awareness of the difficulties and problems faced by children suffering from this syndrome,” Sarah noted. Blasco, vice-president of this association in Teruel.
Planned activities were curtailed due to inclement weather, but children were able to enjoy a story time, a talk on ADHD on “How to Avoid School Failures,” and the presence of Lucia de la Hoz, Miss Teruel 2024.
Lucia de la Hoz, as the godmother of ceremonies and a student of the problem, presented this pathology, informing people who learned a little more about what ADHD is. Lucia is Miss Teruel 2024 and when she competed in the Miss Spain pageant in April, she had to develop her social project and she did it with the same theme. “This is a special event for me and it is very close to my heart because my brother is diagnosed with ADHD,” Lucia de la Hoz said. Among the tasks that had to be accomplished was “to bring this fact to the attention of society, since there are many more cases and people need to know what ADHD is,” said “Miss Teruel 2024.”
For his part, Javier Pérez Saez, a psychologist and specialist in learning disabilities, focused his presentation on “trying to help parents avoid school failure,” he noted. “It is difficult to lead well because the topic is difficult to explain,” he noted. Its main task is to inform people about ADHD and tell them what it consists of, what symptoms and signs appear when a small child suffers from this disease. The approach to parents was divided into two parts: the first with children under two years old and on an academic basis, forgetfulness and confusion, what gestures should be made in order to develop positive habits and have the resource of writing in a notebook. all the tasks that need to be completed, so that if you forget, you can refer to the agenda and find out what is marked on it.
And second, starting with adolescent children (12 years and older), where emotional control is needed and where new technologies can be an ally and “support to avoid failure,” recalled Pérez Sáez. Technology and tools like YouTube allow us to provide tutorials when attention is lost in class, and then be able to access subjects covered or not covered in class and be able to review the content of said topics without compromising the rest. classmates or yourself. This loss of attention and disconnection from subjects is one of the reasons why girls and boys with ADHD drop out of school.
And for parents, this is also a help, since they often do not have sufficient tools to control the situation or the ability to provide answers to questions that arise. “Parents also need support and learning emotional management techniques to avoid conflicts,” said the ADHD psychologist.
The narrator, read by Amaya, is a special girl with ADHD who, with her Dance of Friendship (written by Sarah Blasko), delighted her classmates and playmates as she entered into a magical world of different and diverse people like these hyperactive and creative boys and girls. .
The ADHD Awareness Day was closed by the singer Diko, who wrote a special rap prepared for the occasion, with the aim of raising awareness, also through music, of this pathology and what the Teruel Association of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder would like to translate into Society of Teruel.
