At least 60 dead in new Israeli attacks on Lebanon – DW – 10/29/2024
The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed this Tuesday (10/29/2024) that at least 60 people were killed and more than 58 were injured in a new wave of Israeli attacks on several towns in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon.
The attacks, about which further details are not known, came 24 hours after another attack by Israel on various parts of Lebanon, which killed 19 and injured more than 108.
With the deaths reported this Tuesday by Lebanese authorities, the total number of deaths as part of the Israeli state’s operations against the Lebanese Shia group Hezbollah has reached 2,732.
Meanwhile, the number of injured has risen to about 12,700, according to official reports by Lebanese sources on Monday.
Forced displacement of over 1.2 million
According to a statement, the Lebanese Public Health Ministry’s Emergency Operations Center said the figures were calculated “from the beginning of Israeli aggression” against Lebanon on October 8, a day after the war in the Gaza Strip began.
According to local media, most of the deaths – around 1,600 – have occurred since last September 23, when Israeli forces launched an unprecedented bombing campaign against various parts of Lebanon, particularly the south, east and southern suburbs of Beirut.
Also, the campaign has forced more than 1.2 million people to be displaced, but only 15% of them have been registered in reception centers set up by the Lebanese government, most of which are completely overcrowded.
