Carlos Sainz retires at chaotic Brazilian Grand Prix

Sunday, November 3, 2024:
– Race: P16, retirement

  • Despite not feeling comfortable with the SF-24 in the rain, Carlos fought to return from the pit lane in one of the most chaotic races of the season, but his Sunday ended abruptly with a crash.
  • He qualified thirteenth, but the team chose to tear down the indoor park to replace elements of the power unit and gearbox, so as not to require additional changes in the final part of the season.
  • The Spaniard fought his way to thirteenth place in very difficult track conditions, with rain that varied in intensity and made danger lurking around every corner.
  • On lap 32, during the safety car, he made his only pit stop to install a second set of intermediates that would take him to the end of the race. However, moments later, an accident triggered a red flag that left him strategically damaged.
  • Carlos’s Sunday came to an abrupt end on lap 39 when the hydroplaning victim crashed in sector two. At that time he was running in thirteenth position.

STATEMENTS:
“Without a doubt, this is a Sunday to forget. I feel bad for the team and the extra work on an already long day. This year I suffered in the rain with this car, and today I also did not feel well. I tried to squeeze and take some risks to gain ground, but it’s clearly not worth it. This Sunday is hard to stomach, but we will turn the page and reset everything for Las Vegas.”
