Nintendo’s next console will be compatible with Switch games
Nintendo has announced that games developed for the Nintendo Switch, as well as the Nintendo Switch Online service, will be compatible with the company’s next successor console, which is expected to be unveiled no later than March next year; that is, in a few months.
In May this year, the Japanese video game company announced that it will unveil its new gaming console, the successor to the current Nintendo Switch, during this fiscal year, which will last until March next 2025.
Now, although the new console has not yet been revealed, Nintendo has confirmed that it will be backwards compatible. This means that previous games developed for the Nintendo Switch will also be available for the new successor console.
This was confirmed by Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa during a briefing on the technology company’s corporate governance policies, where he clarified that content from the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service will also be compatible with the new hardware, according to the release. in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
At the same time, Furukawa concluded by emphasizing that they will continue to share more information about the company’s next console “later,” although he did not provide a specific date for the presentation of the machine, nor the day when it will appear. on the shelves.
Nintendo presented results on Tuesday for the first half of fiscal 2025, a period during which it recorded a net profit of 108,658 million yen (656.2 million euros). He also clarified that, with regard to sales of the Nintendo Switch console, he expects to sell 12.5 million game consoles during the year, which is a million less than planned.
