SANTIAGO IDIS MUSICAL DISEASES | IDIS Sensogenoma Project Award for Demonstrating the Therapeutic Potential of Music
Sensogenome Music is a citizen-participatory initiative of the Santiago Health Research Institute (IDIS), distinguished by its an innovative approach to music and health researchand which has already demonstrated evidence indicating “the benefits of music in neurodegenerative diseases, cerebral palsy or autism spectrum disorders,” as previously stated by Federico Martinon, one of the coordinators of the project, has just received one of the awards of the competition for responsible research and innovation in healthcare (RRI) of the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).
In particular, recognition concerns the offer Sensogenoma22, at the forefront of science and culture, led by the IDIS Division of Infectious Diseases, Inflammation and Vaccines (GenPoB and GenViP research groups), which in recent months have held concerts “at which the public participated in genomic research, promoting awareness and citizen participation in improve the quality of life of patients with chronic diseases” With these words, the commission responsible for the award assessed the work of Sensogenoma at an event held yesterday in Madrid, attended by IDIS Scientific Director Maria Luz Couse Pico; researcher Laura Navarro Ramon and project principal investigator Antonio Salas Ellacuriaga, also a professor at the USC School of Medicine and an IDIS investigator. All three were accompanied by Marina Pollan, director of the Carlos III Health Institute.
Having received this recognition, Antonio Salas assured that “there’s a lot of effort behind it and more excitement if possible. I congratulate everyone who has accompanied us and continues to accompany us on this wonderful adventure, with special love to the Royal Philharmonic of Galicia and all the patient associations that collaborate.
For my part, Mª Luz Cuce Pico definite citizen participation as “the engine connecting science to society, ensuring that the knowledge gained meets the true interests and needs of the community, and this project is an excellent example of this connection.
