Biden and Trump begin White House transition on Wednesday
Washington (EFE).- The outgoing President of the United States, Democrat Joe Biden, and the winner of the election, Republican Donald Trump, will meet at the White House next Wednesday, November 13, to begin negotiations on the transition. Powers.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced in a statement on Saturday that Biden will welcome Trump to the Oval Office next Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Washington time (4:00 p.m. GMT).
Trump, who already ruled the country between 2017 and 2021, won the election last Tuesday over the Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, who took over from Biden as her party’s nominee last July.
In the absence of a count in the state of Arizona, Trump won 301 electoral votes, 31 more than the 270 needed to win the presidency, while Harris received 226 votes.
Biden initiated change with Trump
In an address to the nation on Thursday, Biden promised to ensure a “peaceful and orderly transition” to transfer power to Trump and sought to console Democrats by assuring them that “America is going to be OK.”
Biden did not confirm whether he would personally attend Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, but indicated he might: “I will keep my promises and honor the Constitution on January 20; “We will have a peaceful transition of power in the United States,” he said.
When Trump lost the election to Biden in 2020, he refused to accept the result and became the first president in 150 years not to attend his successor’s inauguration.
Republicans returned to power four years after a mob of their followers stormed the Capitol in a failed attempt to stop the transition.
Apart from winning the White House, Republicans have also secured majority in the Senate and are counting on majority in the House of Representatives, which will give Trump substantial power.
