Heavy bombing near Beirut at night, according to media – DW – 11/23/2024

At least three new night bombings rocked the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut on Friday night and Saturday (11/23/2024), according to images from press agencies and state media.

“Enemy military aircraft attacked Beirut’s southern suburbs near Ghobairi,” national news agency ANNIE reported.

The first attack occurred shortly before midnight (22:00 GMT). International media journalists who were in the center of Beirut and in the east of the city heard at least three explosions, one of which was more violent than the others.

Information about destruction of eight storey residential building

The official Lebanese news agency NNA reported that “an Israeli attack with five missiles” struck an eight-story residential building in the center of Beirut, completely destroying it.

“The capital Beirut was shocked by the horrific massacre. Israeli aviation completely destroyed an eight-story residential building with the help of five missiles,” the report said.

Earlier on Friday an 11-storey building was demolished by shelling in southern Beirut, as Israel continued attacks on strongholds of the Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah.

In southern Lebanon, the health ministry said five rescue workers linked to Hezbollah were killed in Israeli air strikes.
