It seems that the German company is already accustomed to significantly underestimate The potential of some models and the launch of the new M5 represent a new opportunity to test how many horses are really hidden under the hood of the electrified sports sedan.
The official figures for the BMW M5 are conservative.
Officially, the new jewel in the crown of BMW M offers only 727 horsepower and maximum torque of 1000 Nm. ready to eat up the rear tires. These figures come from a combination of a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine and a 145kW electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. At the same time, Munich claims that this car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 305 km/h. So much for the theory.
The guys at IND Distribution managed to put BMW’s conservative figures to rest, and after the M5 was dyno tested, the results were: 696.13 horsepower at 5,230 rpm and peak torque of 989 Nm at 2,420 wheel revolutions. What do these numbers mean? Well, if we assume mechanical losses of 15%, then we can say that the new generation BMW M5 is able to offer only 819 horsepower and 1163 Nm of maximum torque.
