More than 350 Valencians received flu and Covid vaccinations in three hours

This Sunday, more than 350 people were vaccinated against influenza and Covid at a mobile station created by the Ministry of Health on Town Hall Square. This is preliminary data collected up to 12:45 p.m., so the figure is likely to rise until closing time, scheduled for 2 p.m.

The refrigerator holding the vaccines started the day with 500 doses, and the ministry predicted about 200 people would come through, so attendance exceeded expectations. “They started a quarter of an hour earlier because there were already people there,” says public health director José Año.

“People who stop when they see the tents and take advantage of it, but it also helps raise awareness among those who see them or even remember the appointments they have for vaccination,” adds Año, who explains that the most common profile is people from 40 to 60 years old. “Older people are already vaccinated, while younger people don’t think about it because they think they are immune,” says Año, who cites the telling data that out of every 100 flu shots, 85 are for Covid. “Some people think Covid is a thing of the past, but it’s not,” he adds.

Maria Garcés Sachez, Deputy Director General for Prevention and Medical Education at the Ministry of Health, explains the importance of vaccination not only for one’s own health, but also for the health of the environment. “We recommend it to people who, although not vulnerable, have contact with older people. “Vaccination is not only an act of personal protection, but also an altruistic act,” he says.
