A republican representative said that the Chinese social network TikTok is a “addictive and destructive” drug that he beijing regime is supplying the Americans.

Mike Gallagherfrom Wisconsin, stated in an interview on the program Meet The Press of the nbc that TikTok is a “digital fentanyl” because “it is highly addictive and destructive.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), fentanyl is a synthetic opioid up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. “It is a major contributing factor to fatal and non-fatal overdoses in the US, the use and fatality of which have risen sharply in the United States in recent years.

The legislator then compared the drug with the popular application: “We are seeing worrying data about the corrosive impact of constant use of social networks, particularly on young men and women here in the United States,” he said. “Indeed dates back to the Chinese Communist Party“, said.

Gallagher, recently appointed to chair the new House Select Committee on China, believes that the social network should be banned in the United States.

Last week, the popular Chinese video app was Banned on all devices managed by the United States House of Representativesaccording to its administrative arm, in line with a law that will soon come into force and that prohibits the application on government devices.

The application is considered “high risk due to a number of security issues”, the House Administrative Chief (CAO) said in a message sent to all MPs and staff on Tuesday, and it should be removed from all House-managed devices.

The new rule is the latest in a series of moves by US governments to ban TikTok, owned by Beijing-based ByteDance Ltd.

In total they are already 19 states that blocked, at least partially, the application on the devices managed by the State by fear that the Chinese regime can use it to track Americans and censor content.

The $1.66 trillion funding bill, approved last week to fund the United States government through September 30, 2023, includes a provision for ban the app on federally managed devices, and will take effect once President Joe Biden signs it into law.
