Last Saturday, Tamayo Perry suffered a shark attack while surfing on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Lifeguards rescued him immediately but nothing could be done to save his life. The Honolulu Emergency Services Department confirmed his death shortly after.
The legendary Hawaiian surfer was an institution in the state. “Tamayo had an infectious personality, and he loved everyone more than people loved him,” said Kurt Leger, acting director of Honolulu Ocean Safety. Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi also mourned his death: “Tamayo was a renowned aquarist, and highly respected.”
Apart from being a surfer, Perry was a lifeguard on the island’s north coast since 2016. However, fame came to him when film directors chose him to act in films about surfers. He also got a chance to be a part of the highest-grossing film like ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. He played a supporting role in the film ‘Stranger Tides’ as part of the crew of the pirate Blackbeard’s ship ‘Queen Anne’s Revenge’.
Perry also appeared in series such as ‘Lost’ and ‘Hawaii 5.0’, although on most occasions his appearances were required to show off his skills with a surfboard.
