A UA survey shows that 50% of women only see a doctor when they have severe symptoms.

In Más de uno Alicante, together with Luz Sigüenza, we learned the details of a study carried out by Psyma Ibérica, commissioned by Organon and supported by the University of Alicante.. It, as confirmed by Maria Teresa Ruiz, was carried out between June and July 2022 and was aimed at women aged 18 to 75 years living in Spain. The first part of the study, presented in March 2023, analyzed the possibilities of reconciliation and its relationship with the healthy lifestyle habits of the women surveyed.

The second report, as explained by Ruiz Cantero, details the most notable findings regarding the health status of the participants.how women use health care, the time it takes to seek it, and the impact of their illnesses, menstruation and menopause on their quality of life.

The UA professor noted that to better understand women’s health, it is critical to know their self-perception.. 68% of respondents rated their health in the past year as good or very good, and only 6% considered it poor or very poor. These data do not depend on the presence or absence of the disease, since 57% of women stated that they did not have any health problems; 35% said they had been diagnosed, while the remaining 8% were awaiting a definitive diagnosis.

Regarding the use of health centers, 76% of all women surveyed said they seek health care alone. The rate is even higher among women aged 36 to 50, reaching 82%, and among women aged 51 to 65, reaching 83%. Even 69% of women aged 66 to 75 still seek medical care alone.

The frequency of doctor visits varies: 58% of women see a doctor once a year and 33% as needed. Except, Almost half of the respondents undergo medical examinations and examinations, thus taking secondary prevention measures.

In terms of the type of health center they visit, more than 80% of women surveyed visit a primary health care center for health problems. Of all participants, 32% have private insurance, but 66% of this group use government services exclusively or in combination.
