According to The Washington Post, it will be a subscription service and will launch in October.

Alexa wants to be the protagonist again. Amazon’s voice assistant is preparing for the biggest change in its history: the new version, which will presumably be called “Remarkable Alexa”, will be based on generative artificial intelligence that wants to fight benchmark chatbots like GPT-4o, especially in its conversational abilities in natural language.

Internal Amazon documents obtained by The Washington Post show that this new super vitamin version of alexa with artificial intelligence It will appear in October next year, but to use it, as rumors have been circulating for several months, we will need to pay a subscription.

Among the options in the updated Alexa will be a feature called “Smart Briefing,” which will deliver AI-generated summaries of key news stories tailored to each customer’s preferences. This option, Amazon says in the documents, will enable “recurring engagement,” or ongoing interaction with the service.

Subscribe to Amazon’s New Chatbot It will cost “up to $10 a month.”and the classic version of Alexa will continue to be available for free. The project to develop the updated version has been particularly chaotic and has suffered numerous delays, but it looks like it will finally hit the market.

Among other additional options, Remarkable Alexa, aka Project Banyan, will offer help with recipe searches, and there’s even a version of the chatbot aimed at kids. There are also expected to be a number of potential shopping assistance tools, such as alerts when a product is on sale, which makes sense for further boosting grocery sales on Amazon.

Updated version of Alexa is expected to be especially “talkative and charismatic” ensure the security of these internal documents. No details about voice synthesis and natural language were given, but Amazon’s proposal is expected to go in the same direction as GPT-4o, the OpenAI chatbot that has demonstrated amazing capabilities in spoken communication. Google is also aiming for the same with Project Astra.

Interestingly, Amazon will also launch Project Metis, a web service that will be an alternative to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other chatbots that can be used from a browser.

These projects are certainly a fundamental commitment for Amazon, which has had virtually no presence in the generative AI sector so far. Not only that, its investment in the Amazon Echo family of devices, which were supposed to drive Alexa usage, has been a disaster, and the company continues to lose money on them. The updated Alexa could change that.
